TournamentSeeker.com: Search for Game Events

While a few gaming tournaments a year feature strong marketing, great sponsor backing and decent press coverage (meaning, usually, a mention somewhere) a majority of tournaments go almost unnoticed by the gaming press, and therefore the community. Tracking down game tournaments to attend or participate in becomes even harder when you can’t even find a list of the games being played at a particular event, as I have encountered. Plus the info is never at one site; you usually have to visit ten or twelve separate URLs to get information on as many tournaments.
That’s why I raised an eyebrow when Ben from Jet Set Studio sent me a tweet recently about his new site, Tournament Seeker, which provides gamers a search engine for finding any and all upcoming challenge events in any given area, or anywhere, or even online. By going to the Search page and either deciding on a few criteria or merely clicking the Search Events button, you can see all upcoming events, organized nicely by date and including information such as registration status, the games being played, dates and fees, and so forth.
Finding a tournament is so easy, you wonder what the catch is. Apparently, at Tournament Seeker, there’s absolutely none. You don’t even have to register or supply an email address to search the database. Surprised? I know, me too.
For event organizers, Tournament Seeker basically provides free advertising for your event. There’s also three long pages of content called “Resource Central” that provides event coordinators and promoters tons of inside information on creating, budgeting, assembling and promoting a game tournament.
And still, there’s no gotcha. I know, it’s unbelievable.
Anyway, check out Tournament Seeker and read the press release here. If you think you’re a bad ass gamer, find a tournament. If you think you run the greatest game tournament around, send them your info.
